A Long Silence

At last, technology and I have come to an accord; I will endeavour not to lose passwords and photographs, and technology will permit me to report on WI events.

The October and November meetings of Harlow WI were both well-attended, the talks (The History of Shoes & Shoe-making and A Walk With The Admiral) were very interesting and the competitions (Fashionable You photo and A Boat-related picture) drew a high number of entries.

Two other events have taken place since my last report; the WI Bazaar in October proved very popular, with a good supply of items for sale and a steady stream of customers.  The weather was fine and dry, and it was generally agreed to be a successful day, raising over £400 for WI funds.

The Christmas Lunch took place last Wednesday (4th December) with almost fifty members enjoying a three-course meal presented efficiently as usual by Mrs Walker and her stalwart team, despite the drama of a non-functioning cooker.  After the meal, some of the members read or recited humorous stories and poems, and there was a reprise of The Twelve Days of Christmas.  This latter offering has yet to reach a peak of perfection, but invariably creates much enjoyment.

Next week, we have two Carol services as well as our regular Wednesday meeting.  On Monday, some sixteen members are going to Chelmsford Cathedral to attend the county Carol service, whilst on Friday (13th), Harlow WI will be holding its own service at the Old Harlow Baptist Church, starting at 2pm.  After the service, tea and  mince pies will be served.

The talk at the December meeting on Wednesday 11th is by Mrs J Morgan on Hand-bell Ringing with demonstrations and the chance to have a go.  The competition is for an ornamental bell.  We hope as many members as possible will attend this last meeting of 2013.
