March and April
The Open Day in March was a great success, enjoyed by both members and visitors. There was lots on display, illustrating many of the activities available at the WI, and a delicious tea organised by Brigitte and her band of helpers. Linda from The Flower Box in Old Harlow gave a brilliant talk and showed us all how to make two stylish arrangements, one of them in a handbag. She also showed us how to tie a large bow and how to make a fabric rose. Unfortunately, we were all having such a good time that we forgot to take any pictures of the afternoon!
April's meeting was chaired by Christine Dellow, standing in for our President, Diane Hatt. Diane has been undergoing surgery, and we wish her well and a speedy return to the WI.
The speaker this month was Mr Len Little, a retired police dog-handler, who told us about the training and use of police dogs. His talk was very informative and very amusing. He kept us enthralled the whole time. At the end, he was thanked by Betty Trist. He stayed on to judge the competition and to answer questions from members. We look forward to seeing him again in 2018.
The competition was for a "dog item or ornament" and attracted lots of varied items. The winner, entered by Jean McGauran, was a photograph of a small dog sitting on a recumbent large dog. (Sadly, the details don't show up in our pics!)
