Drear November

After all the WI activity last month, it might have been expected that November would be something of an anticlimax.  To be sure, the weather has been typically grey and damp for much of the month but we seem to be packing as much as ever into its thirty days.

The monthly meeting on the 12th attracted almost as many members and friends as usual, and the audience was pleasantly surprised when our speaker, Mr Dudley Chignell, changed his talk (with the agreement of the President) from one on his overseas travels to one on Beatrix Potter and the Lake District.  This was delightfully illustrated with photographs of present-day views contrasted with the views that Miss Potter would have seen when she moved there.  There was even additional intervention from Peter Rabbit and some of his friends.  Members thoroughly enjoyed the talk.

The competition for an "autumn spray" was won by Jean Wright with a simple but effective display of berries.

A week later, on the 19th, fifteen members went on an outing to Tiptree.  The large craft shop there was thoroughly explored before people moved on to the famous 'jam factory' which also houses a museum showing the history and procedures of preserve-making.  Another interesting outing for the WI. 

The final activity this month will be the Craft Sale on Saturday 22nd.  This opens at 10.30am and runs until 3.30 in the afternoon.  We hope as many people as possible will come along and support this event which, as well as work by WI members, will showcase items produced by local crafters.  Admission on the door is only 50p, and we shall be serving teas and cakes.
