June

The competition at the June meeting was for a single rose and there were about a dozen entries, all of which seemed to have a glorious scent.  The winner - judged by our speaker for the day, Mrs Cass Edwards - was a delightful bloom (picture below) entered by Joy Beaumont.

Mrs Edwards had asked to speak early in the meeting rather than wait until the business had been dealt with.  The reason for this request became very clear shortly into her talk which was entitled "What's Your Style?"  Mrs Edwards was already wearing most of the items of clothing which she was demonstrating could be used to create up to six differing looks from classic through to romantic.  Wednesday was a very warm day and there was palpable relief as some of the many layers of clothing were pared down!  It was a very clever demonstration of how easily different combinations of a basic wardrobe can be used to create very different impressions.

After the talk, the meeting reverted to its usual format with apologies, minutes, matters arising, and notices (see list of forthcoming events below).

Tea and biscuits were served, the raffle drawn, the competition prize was presented, and members had time for a chat before they made their various ways home.

The following events were announced (the first two have already taken place):-

     Play-reading afternoon, 2pm on Wednesday 18 June

A walk around the Nature Reserve at Parndon Wood on Thursday 19 June  (due to a
misunderstanding about opening times at the Nature Reserve, this walk went to
Parndon Mill instead, with a coffee break at the Moorhen).  It is hoped to go to Parndon Wood
     next month.

Strawberry Tea at 2.15pm on Wednesday 2 July (tickets £3 from Treasurer on 01279 432233)
