December

The final meeting of 2014 took place on Wednesday last.  Due to holidays, illnesses, and a multitude of Christmas events, fewer members and friends than usual came to the Hall to share some seasonal mince pies.

President Diane Hatt had decided that we should try a new seating arrangement which seemed to work quite well.  Those members who commented were mostly in favour.

After the usual business of the meeting, we were entertained by Martyn Harrison singing songs from the 'new century of musical theatre'.  He is always a great favourite and didn't let us down.  He sang songs from many well-known shows, told us some funny stories, and even managed to encourage some of the members to join in the backing refrain to Any Dream Will Do!  He was thanked for his talk by Daphne Stringer, whom we are delighted to see attending meetings regularly again after a prolonged bout of ill-health earlier in the year.

The competition, which was for a programme from a musical, was judged by Mr Harrison.  Unsurprisingly, the winner was a programme from Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat entered by Jennifer Quinn.

The remaining WI event for this year is the Christmas Carol Service, to be held at the Old Harlow Baptist Church at 2.30pm on Friday 12 December.  All members and friends are very welcome, and there will be a cup of tea or coffee and mince pies after the service.

We reassemble after Christmas on Wednesday 14 January 2015 at 2pm.  Members are reminded that subscriptions will be due (£36 for full members, £17 for dual members) and also that we have to make a decision on which proposed resolution we would like to have debated at the national AGM in June.  Read up on those proposals!

To all of you reading this we wish a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
